Hotel Review

An ideal blend of heritage hotel with city chic this property is located in a charming area of Chinatown close to Ann Siang Hill and Club street - awash with interesting shops, cafes and bars. Nothing is quite as it seems at this here. Enter through the traditional, white colonial facade into a modern lobby of cavernous proportions. This property is idiosyncratic to the extreme: the owner, Loh Lik Peng, has an obsession with antique retro chairs and the entire hotel is littered with them. Each of the rooms is decorated by a different designer of local acclaim meaning they are all entirely unique and it's impossible to choose a favourite! The Attic Suites are ideal for romantic couples - they are palatial and feature 6m high ceilings and two roll-top baths. Other novelties include hanging beds in the 'Junior Lifestyle' Rooms, a mirror clad abode in the 'Mirror' Room and greenery growing from cracks in the walls and bathrooms in 'Room 26'. And then there is the outrageously named and outrageously decorated 'Pussy Parlour' featuring huge chandeliers, deep, plush fabrics and brass four-poster beds. More of a boudoir than simply a room. In addition to ingenious decor there is a rooftop pool, ideal for cooling off from a day out and about in steamy Singapore. The 200 bottle wine cellar makes pairing your food with your wine quite the task and Chef Yong Bing Ngen has created quite a stir with his modern, Cantonese cuisine. The markets and popular restaurants of Chinatown are also on your doorstep. This hotel is definitely aimed at bright, young things. The area can be quite lively in the evening so maybe not ideal for business travellers.
