“The city’s first five-star property has the hand of Sir Rocco Forte all over it – from the sense of light in the bar to the neutral colours of the rooms. That and, of course, lots of funky artworks, including sketches by Lowry himself. Since its 2001 opening in an erstwhile run-down district of the city, the Lowry has blazed a trail for what locals ironically refer to as 'Manchester’s trendy Left Bank'. The area has since caught up and the hotel is now the base for visiting A-listers, although running the gauntlet of yet another film crew can get a bit wearying. Especially while trying to enjoy views of the Calatrava Bridge, which links the hotel back to mainland Manchester, from The River Bar.”
