About Verdun

Verdun is in a beautifully part of France's Lorraine region, but many visitors come because of the town’s bloody history: the hill the town stands upon is built over the dead bodies of thousands of men who died in the longest and most notorious battles of WW1. If you’re here to see the memorials and shell-studded battlefields then the best places to stay in Verdun might be in the town itself, but if you want to see a bit more of Normandy then the best places to stay in Verdun will be a bit further outside town, possibly with nice, sunny views of the River Meuse.

  • The Hostellerie du Château des Monthairons is a wonderfully historic château with 25 rooms, some with four poster beds and turret windows. As well as being close to the memorials of Verdun and having its own tennis courts, gourmet restaurant and spa, this is also a great place for people who want to fish the river Meuse.
