About Atami

Perched on the sun-soaked coast of Shizuoka Prefecture, Atami is a vibrant seaside city famous for its natural hot springs, ocean views, and easy 45-minute train ride from Tokyo. Whether you’re after a sleek design hotel with panoramic terraces, a family-friendly stay close to the beach, or a traditional ryokan near Atami Onsen, this resort town has you covered. For lively nightlife and convenience, base yourself downtown; for quieter escapes, head to the leafy hillsides overlooking the bay.

Atami offers a mix of culture, history, and seaside fun that makes it easy to fill your days. You can admire the art and sweeping views at the MOA Museum of Art, step back in time at the beautifully preserved Kiunkaku residence, or wander through shrines tucked away in the forest. Families especially enjoy the quirky Trick Art Museum and the dazzling fireworks that light up the bay each year, while the tranquil Plum Gardens provide a gentler escape. If you’re craving fresh air, stretch out on Sun Beach or Nagahama Beach, hop on a boat tour, or head into the hills for cycling and trekking. And when the day winds down, nothing beats returning to a traditional inn for soothing onsen baths, relaxing massages, and a feast of Japanese cuisine.
