About Benasque

Tucked in the heart of the Pyrenees and set on the banks of the Esera River, Benasque is a charming mountain town. Popular with visitors from France, Spain and further afield during both winter and summer, this little community of 2,000 inhabitants is the main hub of the Benasque Valley. The highest resort in the Aragonese Pyrenees, Aramón Cerler (a 10 minute drive up the hill from Benasque) is a favourite amongst winer sports enthusiasts. Reaching up to 2,630 metres, the resort’s pistes are divided between the Cerler and Ampriu Valleys, offering marked slopes for a range of abilities. The resort also boasts the largest vertical descent in the Pyrenees, at an impressive 1,130 metres. For cross-country skiing, look instead to the Llanos del Hospital resort, about 20 minutes' drive away.

Summer visitors, on the other hand, can tackle myriad challenging hiking trails in the Posets-Maladeta Naural Park, studded with towering mountain peaks. Climb Posets, the second-highest peak in the Pyrenees, from Eriste, or admire the many pristine lakes — called ‘ibóns’ in Aragonese — of the Escarpinosa and Los Ibones areas. The trek to the Forau D’Aiguallut waterfall is particularly striking, and swims in the Baños de Benasque are very special.   • Fly into Lourdes-Tarbes-Pyrénées Airport or to Zaragoza Airport, both just under three hours from Benasque. Catch a shuttle or taxi up into the mountains from either airport.
