Largest island in the group, Rhodes is one of the best places to stay in the Dodecanese if you're looking for a gateway to the other islands. The ferry hub is in Mandraki Harbour, which is quite close to the treasures of Rhodes Old Town. Heritage listed because of its fascinating mix of architecture, Rhodes Old Town is a must for people with an interest in history and mythology.
Most of the package holiday hotels are on the southern side of the island, which also has some of the nicest beaches. But Kos is also a good choice if you're looking for a particularly Greek experience: the island is less developed. This is a good spot if you dream of finding your own secluded cove.
