Hotel Review
Located in the small village of Ottrott, the Hostellerie Des Châteaux & Spa is the perfect pit stop for those looking to explore the Alsatian wine route. In between capital, Strasbourg and also tourist city, Colmar, the family-run hotel has grown from a small and simple hotel with just a couple of rooms in the 70s to now 66 rooms – including suites with private hot tub, saunas and balcony’s overlooking Alsace.
Rooms start from simple French chambres to large and very spacious suites and even a secret suite which could almost double as a mini-house. Depending on the room, traditional or modern furnishings make the stay in the room very relaxing and comfortable for those who want to rest their weary feet after exploring the greater Alsatian region. All rooms come with air-conditioning and also flat-screen TVs, some with balcony’s
The crowd at the hotel is a mix between families, gourmets and wellness seekers. During peak seasons, the hotel easily reaches full capacity thanks to the 1000m2 spa centre which has six saunas, hammams, spas with hydro-jets, outdoor and indoor pool, as well as resting areas and water beds which is a major draw to tourists. Best to visit the spa in the morning and not in the afternoon to ensure peaceful serenity.
Breakfast can be hectic; however, the staff are professional, friendly and efficient. There are two restaurants, gourmet restaurant, Le Gastronomique and a bistro-style, Le Comptoir du Chateau. The restaurant is run by the owner who is a bona-fide chef in his own right. Expect classic French dishes like Foie-Gras and modern interpretations by a young pastry chef. Ingredients are local where possible and even at breakfast, the excellent home-made bread, cured salmon and fresh fruit show the class of the hotel.
Free public outdoor parking available, underground at extra costs. Be sure to check out on time or be charged extra.
