Hotel Review

Set in Bruton which is said to be the ‘coolest’ town in Somerset thanks to its art galleries, independent shops and foodie hotspots, At The Chapel is a stylishly-renovated chapel offering chic accommodation and local, innovative cuisine. The interior and vibe is laid-back cool and minimalist throughout. Highlights of the light-filled guest rooms include comfy king-size beds with Egyptian cotton bedlinen and spacious marble bathrooms with enormous walk-in showers and bathtubs big enough for two. Thoughtful extras like a pillow menu and fresh croissants from the bakery delivered to your door in the morning make staying here a treat.

Be sure to dine in the restaurant downstairs; a beautiful space with two-story chapel- windows, contemporary art, a stunning light fixture hanging from the high ceiling and views of the countryside and iconic 12th century Dovecote tower that watches over the town. Tuck into a menu of ingredients from local organic producers, biodynamic growers and cheesemakers, and don’t miss the most creative, mouthwatering pizzas from the bakery’s wood-fired oven. During summer, the south-facing outdoor terrace is a fabulous spot for dinner or drinks, too. What’s more, if you’re a fan of wine, there’s a well-stocked collection of organic or biodynamic wines for sale by the reception area.

At the Chapel has all the ingredients for a lovely couples’ escape but families are equally as welcome (book the loft suite which sleeps four). And there’s a lot to explore on its doorstep, including following the ten-minute footpath through fields to the pioneering world-class contemporary art gallery, Hauser and Worth.
