Hotel Review

Mystery Skiathos is the one to book if you want to stay in town but not necessarily be right in the thick of things. This charming all suite property is situated just 10 minutes up the hill from Skiathos Town's bustling centre, so whilst all the entertainment (bars, shops and restaurants) is easily accessible, here you get the feeling of calm and relaxation. The ten suites are modern and spacious and all have been excellently decked out with plenty of little luxury touches, including marble bathrooms and top of the range bed linens and mattresses. All also benefit from seating areas and a private fully furnished balcony with excellent views, but if you push the boat out and book the Executive Suite or Grand Villa, you can indulge in your own private hot tub too! The facilities here don't disappoint either; there's a concierge to sort out all your excursions, daily breakfast spread, poolside restaurant and bar for lazy days when you can't be bothered to leave and cheerful, helpful staff who are full of useful tips and info. An excellent choice for a laid back family friendly property (many of the suites can easily accommdate up to 6), and one that won't break the bank!

We operate since 2015. All the Suites are spacious ranging from 50 to 104 square meters. There are 4 tempting suites with private outdoor hot tubs. All the suites offer views to hotel’s garden and pool and also to the green surrounding mountains and the red tiled roofs of Skiathos town. What kind of breakfast do you offer?

Breakfast is only a la carte and it is prepared fresh each morning from a much extended menu. Only the highest quality ingredients are chosen and the local products are preferred. The hotel's breakfast ensures a balanced, healthy start to your day. The menu has everything you’ll need to start your day off on the right foot. It includes a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, cold cuts, cheeses, traditional Greek pies, natural Greek yogurt, oat porridge, pancakes, waffles and traditional Greek deserts. Eggs are cooked to your liking. Freshly baked bread, white and whole toasts, organic Greek honey and marmalades are also available. Freshly squeezed orange juice, tea and freshly brewed coffee can be ordered separately and are carefully prepared by our team of baristas.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?

Mystery is paying attention to detail and quality. For every dish we prepare, we use fresh ingredients of the highest quality, local products and organic vegetables from our garden (subject to supply and season). We offer different Greek traditional dishes according to the daily menu. So, our guests staying for long have several options and not a repetitive menu. Our meals are homemade and come out in few portions, as we cook only for in house guests. This gives us the ability to invest in quality and not quantity almost like we cook for our household. Apart from the Greek cuisine, our menu consists of several snacks, salads, light dishes, pasta, pizza and grilled meat. All these dishes are made to order. Our restaurant is open from 12.00 to 23.00 and we serve other inside or at the pool area or at the privacy of their suites. The latest is very convenient for the guests, because all suites are featuring a dining area in the living room or a furnished table at the balcony.

Since we are only 500 meters away from the busy Papadiamanti Street, plenty of famous restaurants are within reach. A 10 min walk is enough to take you to places of excellent reputation. We strongly recommend a few restaurants according to our guests’ preferences that are very consistent with their service and we always get a positive feedback. It is really important for us to ensure them a great dinner outside our premises.

Which are your most popular room types, and why?

The most popular suites are the Executive and Grand Villa, because they offer a private hot tub at the balcony. Many couples check themselves in to celebrate an anniversary or their birthday. They find it a truly relaxing way to spend time with their partner. So, after a typical hot day of exploring the island, they return for a soak in their own private hot tub and take in the relaxing views of the sky, green mountains and Skiathos town. We offer them a feeling of total privacy, so that they can spend quality time enjoying each other’s company. We also discretely serve them meals at the balcony table or in suite at the dining area of the living room. Guests choosing these suites spend very often the night in and use hotel facilities more like the mini bar or the room service.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms?

We offer baby cots and high chairs. We don’t offer extra beds, because we have the option of family suites like the Deluxe Suites and the Grand Villa, where up to 4 children can sleep. These Suites have two bedrooms, one at the ground floor and the second at the loft. Moreover, there is a living room with a sofa that opens up to a double bed. These three areas are separated, so privacy is maintained. The cost of the suite is the same regardless of the number of children that are accommodating. This is very beneficial for large families with 3 or 4 children.

The restaurant menu offers plain and simple dishes suitable for children. A babysitter is in site and can offer her service on request. There is also a great variety of children’s toys, books and pool toys available. The pool depth is maximum 1.30 meters.

What is there to do in the area?

Explore Skiathos Town - Skiathos town is the centre of the island. Everything happens here. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs for every taste and age. All cultural events, like theater shows, movies, and music concerts take place at Skiathos town. A wide variety of shops covering fashion, art, jewelry are available here. Moreover, all necessary facilities and services for tourists can be found in the town, like car and boat rentals, ticket offices, tourist information centre, the post office, the police station and the healthcare centre. Moreover, there is always the choice of visiting a museum or an art gallery. Near Mystery you find Papadiamantis home. The house of the famous Greek author is open to the public as a folklore museum. It is located at the centre of Skiathos town just a few meters away from the port. The house was built by Papadiamantis father, who was a priest, in 1860. It is a two-storey house of 75 square meters. The visitors of the museum have the chance to see not only the architecture and furnishing of a typical 19th century house, but also they become familiar with the great work of the famous author. There is an exhibition of his books, old editions, original manuscripts and also an exhibition of his personal belongings, including his pen and inkwell. He has written with this pen 180 novels, which ironically were all published after his death. The museum has been declared as a historic monument in 1965, by the Ministry of Culture.

The Skiathos town is stretched from the port up to two hills. The port is divided to the old and new by a green peninsula, the Bourtzi islet. In 13th century, a Venetian fortress was constructed in Bourtzi, so as to protect the town from pirates. Nowadays, visitors may see the remnants of it. The area offers an airy café bar with amazing views of the town and the sea. There is also an open air theatre, where many cultural events take place during summer.

Spend your day at the Beach - A beach close to the town - A relatively small beach, located in the south of the island, Megali Ammos is very popularand within walking distance from Mystery. It is a well- organized clean beach, ideal to visit when you just want to relax.

Visit Monastery of Evagelistrias - Skiathos is a very religious island with numerous churches and monasteries. The most important of all is the historical Monastery of PanagiaEvangelistria, located just 4 km from Skiathos Mystery on a lush green slope. Some guests choose to walk this distance, because the nature is very beautiful. Evangelistria Monastery is a 18th century monument. It played a key role in Greek Revolution in 1821, as it was a shelter for the revolutionaries and also ensured their financial support. The first Greek flag was weaved, blessed and raised here. The visitor has the unique opportunity tο admire preserved frescoes, old icons, rare manuscripts and books from 18th century. At the premises, there is also an exhibition of local products. While you are here, it is worth trying the wine produced by the monks. It is used for religious chores, but its production has increased over the years, so nowadays it is bottled and sold. According to Alexander Papadiamantis, this wine may relieve the sadness and worries of the world!

Planespoting - The Papadiamantis International Airport is probably one of the most famous airports in Europe when it comes to planespotting. The runway threshold is right next to the public road. The scene when landing is amazing, and a visit to watch departing and landing planes is worth a visit in itself. The Airport is 3km away from Skiathos Mystery.
