Eight couldn’t be more central, when it comes to Bath accommodation. The hotel comprises of two historic townhouses, around the corner from Bath Abbey, with the main house located next door to Sally Lunn’s historic tea-room, said to be one of the oldest houses in Bath. Eight bedrooms are contained within this building and an additional 12 are in a grand building situated on the neighbouring Abbey Green, a pretty cobbled square. The bedrooms are all different and vary in size, from spacious high-ceilinged rooms with free-standing baths and original fireplaces to smaller, equally comfortable, bedrooms at the top of the house. Bathrooms have patterned tiles and products from The White Company. The decoration is fresh and light in a neutral palette which contrasts with the brightly coloured velvet armchairs and cushions. The reception closes late in the afternoon, so guests can come and go as they please, creating a feeling of staying in a Bath home. There’s also a well-stocked honesty bar and, while there’s no longer a restaurant here, there are plenty to choose from within a few minutes’ walk. Breakfast, served on pretty willow pattern plates, is a traditional affair with a cooked menu and continental options.
