Hotel Review

Recently refurbished three-star ski-and-hiking hotel in the upmarket village of Les Praz, just a few metres from Chamonix’s Flégère cable car and with free parking. Its 15 cosy rooms (four of them family suites) are redecorated in cheery matching colours with dark laminate wardrobes and desks, all with stunning views of the Alps (look out for the stunning Aiguille Verte peak). The new bathrooms are wet-room style, with powerful overhead showers and tasteful ceramic tiled walls and floors. Eight superior rooms in the modern extension offer roomier accommodation and balconies. Firm beds, crisp linen and ample heating ensure skiers (and summer hikers) can sleep in comfort, while a sauna can soothe away any aches from arduous climbs. The bar is small and welcoming, with a widescreen TV tuned to a sports channel, while the adjoining sleek restaurant provides ample first-rate fare, from burgers to tagine to unbeatable fondue. The cold breakfast buffet offers fresh fruit salad, cheeses, pastries and croissants. Long-serving staff create an informal atmosphere and are on hand to offer advice. Away from the noise of central Chamonix, Les Lanchers is easily accessed by the free ski bus or is a gorgeous half-hour walk on the Promenade des Econtres beside the rushing river. Close to the gondola but in a quieter spot away from the ski hordes, this well-priced establishment is a haven for families, couples and friends.
