“A modern pleasure palace, Narendra Bhawan channels all the opulence of turn-of-the-century Rajasthan with state-of-the-art amenities. Gourmet food, an immersive list of activities, superlative service, and stylish rooms are a recipe for success. There really is no better place in Bikaner.”

Hotel Review

Quirky, stylish hotel, Narendra Bhawan seems to appear out of nowhere along an otherwise nondescript road in Bikaner. Its towering facade conceals a cornucopia of curios and objets d'art, the imagined personal collections of the late Maharajah Narendra Singhji (from where the hotel gets its namesake). Art deco furnishing and fabrics abound, as do antiques from the Orient, artwork from across India, old family portraits, and auction house collectables, whilst the main entrance foyer is dominated by a royal red baby grand piano, with Edith Piaf's famous motif "Non, je ne regrette rien" emblazoned in gold. Upstairs, the rooms are much more paired-back (though no less glamorous), and boast what must be Rajasthan's most comfortable mattresses. Each category is decorated with a different theme, from modern Indian, stately, to princely. Grey walls and sexy dark bathrooms create a sense of style (and complimentary Ayca toiletries are a welcome addition). Shelves filled with books and magazines, vintage style Roberts radios and baskets filled with blankets add a personal touch. You'll also find a well-stocked mini-bar as well as tea and coffee making facilities. The food is superb, and the restaurant, Pearls & Chiffon is a feast for the eyes as well as the senses. Breakfast is a choice of pancakes, waffles, eggs to order, and a cake tier of freshly baked pastries (placed on your table whether you ask for it or not). The traditional thali is a must try, and If you've time, do sample the literary menu, a seven-course spread of literarily-inspired dishes. Divine. There is an indulgent spa, fit for a princess, as well as a colourful rooftop pool with far-reaching views across Bikaner. The best place by a country mile to stay whilst visiting this historic city.
