“This unusual floating hotel is classically Scandinavian - no novelties, just pure function and sleek design. A fine Swedish restaurant with alternative accommodation. Spend the day jumping into the cool water off the floating dock, or enjoy exploring this beautiful archipelago.”

THE BIG SIX: SEASIDE RETREATS IN SCANDINAVIA

Six floating pontoons of two-storey clapboard buildings house stylish rooms that are named and decorated according to different spices; each comes with a sitting area to drink in the views of the Bohuslan coast archipelago. A sauna catamaran is the latest innovation, with steps leading into the bracing water.

Sea Beds

The country's first floating hotel sounds gimmicky and an excuse for bad jokes about the earth moving. But ineffably cool Sweden is, of course, far too classy for tasteless novelties. The floatiness is purely functional: it sits on the water because there was no more room in the fishing village and diners at Salt & Sill's restaurant were craving a place to sleep after feasting on herring and schnapps.
