Hotel Review

Delhi’s first design hotel, The Manor retains an air of intimacy and sophistication following a recent renovation. Hidden amidst the smart gated colony of Friend’s Colony West, it’s a world away from the frenetic streets of Delhi. A blend of natural materials: a cross-section of a tree-turned-dining table, decorative polished concrete floors, and bespoke hand-crafted furniture. In-room, stylish interior accents of polished wood furnishings and snug woollen throws are understated in muted tones. Dark, monochrome, marble bathrooms are very sleek, with separate baths and powerful showers. There's a convivial atmosphere during breakfast at The Verandah, and not a buffet in sight. Choose from an à la carte menu of strong coffee, pots of masala chai, fresh-pressed juices, and your choice of eggs benedict, American style pancakes, seasonal fruit, and granola. For lunch and dinner, Indian favourites and Western comfort food is on the menu. The new flagship restaurant, in-q serves a seasonal 13-course experimental Indian menu, showcasing modern twists on traditional favourites and famous street food dishes. It’s a must-visit – so be sure to book ahead. Outside, a large lawned area highlights the conspicuous lack of pool, but the hotel boasts one of Delhi’s best gyms, Studio 60, plus yoga and Pilates at Sanctum – though do bear in mind, both are an additional charge, and are closed on Sundays. Ayurvedic-inspired treatments are available at the spa. With all the style and panache of a hotel twice its size, it’s a soothing stay for any traveller.
