The Ritz Carlton is undeniably aimed mainly at the well-heeled corporate traveller, but there is no reason why more leisured visitors should not enjoy its top-notch facilities, which include a rather fabulous spa and indoor pool, an array of bars and restaurants, seamless service and gorgeous rooms. Fluffy bathrobe territory, in other words, and a truly excellent choice especially if you’re looking for a luxurious short break in the chillier months, when al fresco dining and outdoor pools hold no appeal. There are some great new restaurants, bars, shops and clubs nearby, and the tourist high points of the old city are not too far away.
