“The Royce promises all the dazzling glitz & glamour of the 1920s, with sleek marble & chrome interiors in what was once Melbourne's first luxury automobile showroom. This restored city landmark now boasts slick guest rooms, gourmet eateries & a sensational cocktail bar. Gorgeous & great fun. ”

Hotel review

Once a showroom for luxury cars (Bentley’s, Packard and yes, Rolls-Royce), a two-year renovation in 2022 has turned this once-forgotten property into one of Melbourne’s most luxurious boutique hotels in the city. Whilst the location is not quite central, it is perfectly positioned for inner-neighbourhood romps around Melbourne: South Yarra, Albert Park, St. Kilda and also Port Melbourne – all are reachable by foot or a short tram ride away.

It’s all about comfort rather than superlatives at The Royce and the public spaces are worth lounging around in. A social house for well-heeled Melburnians, the original showroom doubles up as the lobby, as well as a restaurant with a glam bar serving cocktails at all hours of the day. Cleanliness is probably the greatest perk of this very polished, elegant and sophisticated hotel. The rooms resemble the same elegance found around the property: expect marble bathrooms, large-sized comfortable beds and curated mini-bar across all room grades. Staff can come across a little aloof and cool but still friendly and efficient. One thing to watch out for, most things come as an optional extra: valet parking, breakfast and even simple bar snacks when ordering a cocktail at the bar.
