“The Zuri is all about pampering yourself at the Maya spa. With an extensive wellness menu, fitness centre and detox packages - leave feeling completely rejuvenated. Surrounding a peaceful lagoon there are international dining options and on site activities. Modern rooms enjoy Vembanad Lake views. ”

Hotel review

Boasting one of South India's largest spas, The Zuri Kumarakom is all about wellbeing. Enter through a pair of heavy, wooden gates, bolted shut by a traditional Kerala 'manichithrathazhu' lock, into an oasis of tranquility. The lobby is a cavernous structure where the scent of jasmine and the sound of trickling water fills the air. Make your way to your room or cottage, enjoying views of the large lagoon which the resort is centred around or Vembanad Lake herself. Rooms are a blend of modern and traditional Indian styles with dark wood exposed beams and terracotta tiles juxtaposing contemporary textiles and all the mod-cons. A great escape for couples, the private pool villas are something special. The Maya spa is what most people comer here for and their extensive menu includes traditional Ayurvedic, Chinese and Western treatments. Receive a private diagnosis prior to your treatment and consultation on specific outcomes, intentions and pressure points for massages. An utterly relaxing and immersive experience. Plus the all natural oils smell good enough to eat! There is also a spa pool and well equipped fitness centre, for those who can't help but hit the gym on holiday! Private yoga classes can also be arranged and add to your overall feeling of zen. Being one of Kumarakom's only five star properties, Zuri is one of the only places in the area you can get a stiff drink under Kerala's new licensing laws. So make the most of that cocktail menu at the Marquees Lounge or puff on a Habanos cigar. Who said anything about a detox? International dishes can be enjoyed at Lime Tree restaurant whilst the catch of the day is best eaten at Laguna Bass. It would seem that with most hotels in Kerala, the local cuisine is so good, that international dishes pale in comparison. Zuri is no exception. A healthy breakfast spread of fresh fruits and baker's baskets - as well as plenty of less healthy options - is included in the price. Not really one for the family as the emphasis is most definitely on complete relaxation. So leave the kids at home this time and spoil yourselves.
