Hotel Review
Located one block inland from the attractive, tree-lined promenade and marina, Hospes Amerigo is a luxurious modern hotel within an old sixteenth century convent. Don’t be put off by the assumption that Alicante is a modern, sky-rise city of ugly hotels and apartment blocks – the old city centre retains its own charm with a lattice of pedestrian only streets of restaurants and bars and with the surprise of an old church or theatre around the next corner. Easily accessible from the airport, the Amerigo has the added advantage of its own underground car park (for a small fee), very handy for a hire car. A warm and friendly array of smiling faces greet you at the reception, a welcome start to the check-in process. The rooms are modern and light and most have their own balcony looking down onto the charming pedestrian walkways crammed with their tables and umbrellas, ready for the day's drinkers and diners. The swimming pool, spa and bar are cleverly inserted into a small roof space and in amongst the satellite dishes and chimney pots are impressive views of the old city castle to the rear and the sea to the front. A Michelin star restaurant down the side of the building affords the opportunity to dine in style, or there are numerous tapas bars and restaurants minutes away. If the plan is to explore the region by car, Hospes Amerigo is a delightful and ideal start or finish point - equally it's perfect if you're looking for a city with a beach break.
