Hotel Review

Following its long closure for refurbishment, the Savoy has re-emerged with a stylish makeover that befits its status as one of the oldest and most respected hotels in London. With a history for service and luxury that dates back to its opening in 1889, the newly updated model won’t disappoint. There are countless examples of original features from the stunning front lobby to the Red Lift, a period beauty of red lacquer and gilt (which was London's first electric lift). But the overall feel here is of traditional elegance – not in an old-fashioned way, just in a safe, classy way! Some rooms are styled with almost country house hotel fabrics for an Edwardian feel, and others are totally Art-Deco; all are accompanied by the luxury accessories you’d expect from a property of this stature – think marble bathrooms, Labo 31 complimentary toiletries, nespresso machines as standard, wonderful matresses and beautiful Mascioni bed linen. Book a suite and it’ll come with your very own butler – on hand to satisfy whatever your whim (from unpacking to dinner reservations)! The Savoy has always excelled in the food and drinks department and post makeover this too has not changed. The iconic award winning American Bar has a cocktail list longer than many novellas, but if your preferred tipple is not on the list they’ll happily oblige anyway! Dining you’ve got Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy Grill (a must for any true foodie), whilst at Kaspars there’s a superb all day dining menu, plus seasonal specialities. Its central oyster bar is a bit of a showstopper with an unusual (but very atmospheric) light fitting that is reminiscent of icicles dangling from a snow laden roof. Not forgetting the afternoon tea service (cakes to die for) and breakfast (also served in Kaspars) which refreshingly is not the ubiquitous buffet, but instead freshly prepared dishes from a proper menu! Staff are well trained and very helpful; they genuinely seem happy in the their jobs and will bend over backwards to assist in any way possible. For those wanting a luxury stay in the heart of London’s West End, it really doesn’t get much better than this. And if you’ve got a few extra bob to spend we’d recommend you go for a room (or suite) with a river view – you’re almost in touching distance of the London Eye, Houses of Parliament and so much more – stunning doesn’t cover it!
