About Puerto Natales

Set besides deep-blue waters, looking out over snow-crowned mountain peaks in the far distance, lies Puerto Natales - the gateway to the Parque Nacional Torres del Paine. An adventure sports playground surrounded by stunning natural beauty, it is a town of colourful corrugated tin houses sitting beneath Dorotea Hill, which is easily climbed for stunning views. Condors circle overhead and cattle ranches populate the rolling windswept hinterland. There are a number of very special places to stay in the area, from architecturally outstanding lodges to chic hideaways, many in areas of outstanding beauty right on the doorstep of the natural world.

This is a perfect place to go for people who appreciate the remote outdoors, seeking adventure and escape. The eerily bewitching landscape of the region is shaped by glaciers and icebergs, fjords and prehistoric caves. There are many activities on offer, from trekking the glaciers, sailing beside them, or kayaking the glacier-fed lakes. The quintessential rural escape, Puerto Natales provides enchanting views, gorgeous walks and expeditions, not to mention great food, wine tastings and local museums detailing what life was like before the European settlers arrived.

The best places to stay in Puerto Natales make for great base camps to explore the wild and rugged world of Patagonian Chile.

Strange, enchanting, a place of breathtaking natural beauty, Puerto Natales is not to be missed, particularly if you want to get away from it all. Find out more by browsing our list of the best places to stay in Puerto Natales below.
