What are the best hotels in Cuenca?

High in the Andes at 2,500 metres, Cuenca is a colonial city of cobbled streets, grand churches and colourful plazas, with the blue-domed New Cathedral at its heart. The best places to stay make the most of that historic character, from intimate riverside hotels to rustic countryside retreats. Mansion Alcazar is our pick of the bunch, with beautifully restored interiors, spacious rooms and a central location that makes exploring the Old Town easy.

Travel information

  • Cuenca has its own airport just outside the town, but this only receives domestic flights. So we'd advise that you fly to Quito Airport and pick up a connection there.
  • For those who'd prefer to hire a car we recommend contacting our partner Rentalcars.
  • The temperature in Cuenca is relatively stable year round and hovers around 20 degrees Celsius, but to minimise the chance of rain, try and avoid visiting between March and May.
