About Lynchburg

Lynchburg (not be confused with a much smaller Lynchburg in Tennessee) is located in the very heart of Virginia, on the mighty James River and at the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Known as the "City of Seven Hills", it’s a place of great charm and character, with a studious and cultured atmosphere helped by the presence of four important colleges. The best places to stay in Lynchburg are ideal bases whether you've family at one of these institutions, or you've come to explore the area.

Anyone following the Civil War trail will probably know about the famous battle fought here, also that this proud outpost of the Confederacy was the only city never to succumb to the Union Army’s onslaught. Nowadays one if its biggest claims to fame is its not-to-be-missed summer Batteaux Festival, where crews dressed in period clothing use poles to navigate their batteaux down to Richmond down the James River.

Our pick of the best places to stay in Lynchburg is a quirky choice with great views of the historic downtown, James River and Blue Ridge Mountains.
