“A stylishly renovated 19th century castle, with chic modern décor. Rooms come with four-poster beds, bold fabrics, Swiss artworks, and private terraces offering stunning views of Lucerne and the lake. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine and the bar has a plenty of fine wines and cocktails”

Hotel review

Perched high on Gutsch “mountain”, as locals like to call it, Hotel Chateau Gutsch remains one of the most thematic hotel stays in Lucerne without being tacky. The 19th-century hotel was once a place for refugees, war veterans and also royalty like Queen Victoria with many of the old walls, doors and stairwells still in place. Public spaces are filled with pieces of art by Swiss artists and it pays to explore the hotel beyond the confines of your hotel room because the library, restaurant and bar are beautifully designed and furnished.

Four-poster beds, bold wallpaper printed walls and intentionally vintage taps and showerheads make the rooms and suites a design-lovers dream to sleep in. Choose a room or expansive suite with panoramic views of the city (and not the forest), as well as upgrade yourself with a balcony because you won’t be disappointed. The hotel has a Mediterranean restaurant, Lumieres and American Bar with some seriously great cocktails. The best way to and from the hotel is via the funicular (hotel guests have free access) which takes you directly into town where all the shopping, historical sites and theatres can be found.
