Hotel Review

At the foot of the Montseny Mountains and a 40 minute drive from Barcelona lies La Garriga, a village famed for it's extravagantly luxurious modernist 19th century villas, and the Edelweiss Boutique Hotel is no exception. A colourful, creative hotel with 4 luxury bedrooms, each designed uniquely and filled with antique, modernist furniture from the likes of Gaspar Homar and Majorel and smatterings of the Art Deco style along the walls, this hotel is the definition of luxury. Painted in a muted cacophony of creams, blues and yellows, one feels almost transported back 100 years. The Deluxe Double Bedroom, for instance, is decorated with traventine and agate marble and the bathroom of the Junior Suite is built from the blue marble of Macuba, while the Deluxe Junior Suite's bathroom has a stunningly-designed handmade Art Deco mosaic. Rooms are fitted out with bathrooms, private balconies, flat-screen cable TV, free wifi and breakfast is included. Some rooms come with their own dressing rooms, while the more pricey options have hydromassage showers or whirlpool baths. The restaurant, one of the few in the village, can fix customers with a personalised menu that caters directly to their needs and the chef cooks seasonally with ingredients being all locally-sourced. A business centre complete with a meeting room is of particular note and the hotel works in liaison with local groups and can organise everything from bicycle hire and helicopter tours to hairdressing and personal shoppers. There is a Saturday market in La Garriga and it has a lot to offer in the way of cheeses, local honey, knitted scarves and sausages, and though there is a lack of restaurants, there are cafes to while away the hours. The surrounding mountains are part of a protected park and hiking tours can be organised through the hotel and, after working up a sweat in the glare of the mountain sun, one can amble down to one of La Garriga's famous hot spring spas of which it is so famous for. An area popular with golfers, you can try your hand at one of the 17 golf courses in the nearby vicinity.
