“A charming, laidback French-run hotel 20 minutes outside Essaouira. Within a walled eucalyptus garden, privacy and peace prevails while the retreat offers spa treatments, a pool, space to lounge out, a restaurant and comfortable rustic-boho Berber rooms. A great place to unwind and rejuvenate.”

Hotel review

Arrival at this soulful place inspires an immediate sense of relaxation. Rugs laid out on the grass with cushions and pouffes, invite lounging. A generous pool offers a refreshing dip. Comfortable outdoor seating entices diving into a book or conversing with companions.

Co-managed thoughtfully by a delightful French couple who also set up a luxe glamping resort in the south of France, guests are encouraged to feel very much at home here. The informal, authentic atmosphere, attentive staff and sense of community with other guests, make it hard to leave the compound.

An original red-coloured riad building, originally a home then a guesthouse, accommodates traditional family rooms and the spa with hamman while contemporary suites are situated in two opposing, low-standing buildings flanking the pool. Open the door of the room and flop into the water. Or for weary travellers, book into the spa with its menu of massages, from oriental to postural, to dissolve aches.

Breakfast is either served on the patio or in the garden at low tables with freshly baked bagels and delicious pancakes straight from an outdoor bread oven. The restaurant offers shaded al fresco eating during the day and at night, guests can sit under a canopied area and enjoy the warmth of a fire while the garden glows with coloured lights. Nicely presented food is down to earth and satisfying and accompanied by local wine.
