“Hogging the best spot in Cascais, this 19th century villa, with a sleek, contemporary wing, stands on the Ocean’s edge and offers thirty three rooms and suites and two superb restaurants within the sight and sound of the Atlantic’s impressive waves. Stunning infinity pool too.”

Hotel Review

A skilful blend of old and new, the Farol Hotel comprises the original, gabled, white stone villa, built in the 19th century and a new addition, whose contemporary style incorporates huge glass windows letting the light, bouncing off the Atlantic Ocean, stream straight in. Interiors also mix old and new, preserving the building’s heritage with the intricate stucco work in the bar, whilst overlaying it with furniture such as Philippe Starck Louis Ghost chairs in the dining room.

The rooms and suites are all different, and if possible ask to see a few rooms in order to choose which one you want as they are sufficiently varied to cater to completely different tastes. Within the 33 rooms are eight bespoke rooms created by well known Portuguese and international fashion designers. Some are bright red and maximalist, others white and minimalist, still more black and gold with a decadent vibe. There is a penthouse suite, which comes with a butler and a personal chef and there are cosy attic rooms with glass walls overlooking the Atlantic. Yoga in the mornings, massages on request and a salt-water swimming pool between the hotel and the sea.

There are two restaurants. The Mix which serves Mediterranean fusion – think ginger infused risotto with sautéed lobster and Sushi Design, where on a terrace looking out to sea, you can enjoy mouth-wateringly fresh sushi and sashimi.

This is a sleek, sophisticated hotel in one of the loveliest settings in Portugal.
