Hotel Azure sits right on the edge of impossibly blue Lake Tahoe. Start the day with a ‘polar plunge’, crunching down to the water's edge in your robe before warming up in the outdoor hot tub, the mountains turning pink in the early light. 

Rooms and suites have plush bedding, private balconies or patios and everything you need to collapse into after a day on the water or the mountain. The Deluxe Suites are the pick for families or longer stays, with fully equipped kitchens, separate bedrooms and sweeping lake views. Kids will love Tahoe Bowl, a retro 16-lane bowling alley next door with an arcade, happy hour and an onsite pizzeria, useful on a rainy afternoon or a rest day between ski runs. Lane 17 Sports Bar handles the post-slope drinks. McDuff's Pub and Freshies restaurant are both a short stroll away for those who'd rather not cook.

Outside, the lake offers paddleboarding, kayaking and boating in summer; then there’s the small matter of world-class Heavenly and the surrounding ski slopes come winter.
