The Col family, who own and run the Begonvil, lived in Switzerland for 20 years before coming home, and bring a perfect combination of Swiss efficiency and Turkish hospitality to their friendly small hotel and apartments. The Begonvil lives up to its name: the bougainvillea vines, which soften the lines of its fairly basic architecture, reach all the way to the balconies of the third (top) floor and threaten eventually to engulf the whole place. Rooms are simple, beautifully clean and well appointed, with French windows opening on to individual balconies (but insist on a proper sea view, not a side room). No restaurant – but with dozens to choose from in the centre of Kas, two minutes walk away, this isn’t a problem.

"On a narrow street running parallel to the rocky coastline five minutes’ walk east of Kaş harbour, it’s perfectly placed for the swimming platforms on the rocks below, or within a short walk of a shingle beach or the harbour/town centre."
