“An elegant resort offering impressive coastal views. Individually styled rooms have a Mediterranean feel with terracotta tiles, arched windows, and pretty private terraces. Plenty of restaurant choices, seafood, unsurprisingly, a speciality. A spoiling coastal break.”

Hotel review

Sometimes the hotel is the destination and this is the case for Hotel Cala di Volpe. The first luxury resort built in the region, the property opened in 1962 with architect Jacques Couelle re-creating a fishermen’s village for well-heeled jetsetters. The whitewashed Mediterranean-style architecture with exposed stone and stained glass decor add character to the property where 007, The Spy Who Loved Me was filmed. The rooms are slightly smaller than usual given they were built in the 60s but many have wonderful views of the sea and the recent contemporary re-fresh and re-design elevates the comfortable seaside holiday property.

There is everything on-site and families are well looked after here. There is an indoor and outdoor gym, roving personal fitness trainers, tennis courts, golf course, a cute Shiseido spa and an Olympic-sized outdoor salt water pool. Dining is taken seriously here. On the property you will find two restaurants offering fresh seafood and pasture-raised meat from Sardinia with one being buffet-style. There is also world renowned Matsuhisa - by chef Nobu. Dine here at night, it is a vibe. The property has a private beach and a shuttle that runs every 30-minutes from the hotel.

Hot tip: Summer is always the most difficult time to book and snag a room so be smart and come during shoulder-season for a more comfortable stay and astronomically cheaper rates.
