Managed by a charmingly raffish Frenchman, this is the most gorgeous resort hotel near Bodrum. Perhaps calling it a ‘resort’ hotel is misleading: the Kempinski Barbaros Bay stands in glorious isolation above its own private sandy beach and marina. There are dazzling Aegean views from the rooms with private decks, and there’s a totally sybaritic spa. Dine by the beach or high above it (from menus that cover every continent), or for an evening’s slumming or a day’s shopping take a trip into Bodrum, about 20 minutes away.

"With floor-to-ceiling white drapes billowing in the sea breeze over wicker lounge beds, the chill-out room turned shisha lounge, which opens out on to the main pool area, adds a bit of pizazz to an otherwise straightforward design."
