Tucked in a quiet corner near Goodwood, adults-only Kingsley House is far more than a B&B. With three beautifully designed bedrooms available for individual stays, it feels more like a private boutique hotel than a traditional bed and breakfast.
Duncan and Craig have poured their hearts into this brand-new B&B in Surrey, and it shows. The marble bathrooms sparkle with heated towel rails, full-size Listerine, and stacks of flannels. Lights turn on automatically as you walk in, blinds close with a touch of a button, and large beds come with a pillow menu and duvet protectors for the ultimate night’s sleep.
There are thoughtful touches everywhere: fires lit on arrival, fresh flowers in every room, macaroons and Bendicks mints at turndown (yes, turndown at a B&B!), and a choice of still and sparkling water waiting by the bed. Duncan brings freshly brewed Colombian coffee to your room each morning, with a chilled carafe of lemon water and a flask for refills – it’s that level of detail that sets Kingsley House apart from other B&B's in the area.
Breakfast is served at your chosen time and is bespoke, ie, you can have a full English or choose eggs on toast - the black pudding is delicious and is hand-delivered from Dundee by Craig after visits to his mother. Eggs, bacon, sausages and mushrooms are all from local farms and suppliers, and the bread is from the local bakery. Craig is a dab hand in the kitchen and his suppers are delicious, whether you dine privately or at the antique refectory table in their kitchen.
Their gentle Great Dane, Hudson, is the house’s unofficial mascot and only joins you if invited, as Kingsley House does not accept dogs. G&T at 4 pm? Why not? Cinema night with a takeaway? Yes please! Nothing is too much trouble here.
Close to Chichester, Midhurst, Haslemere, and, of course, Goodwood, Kingsley House is a polished, heartfelt addition to Surrey/West Sussex. With hospitality and design that outshine many boutique hotels, it’s one of those rare places you’ll want to book again before you’ve even left.
