“A former Medici hunting estate set in extensive woodland, boasting a relaxing spa, two fine restaurants, and three swimming pools. Grand bedrooms and suites are a mix of rural Medici style and ornate French influences. A refined country estate for those looking for luxury off the beaten track.”

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Because L’Andana is set in splendid isolation in the heart of the Maremma countryside, but just 5 km from Castiglione della Pescaia’s beaches and not too far from the beautiful towns of Siena, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano... So they can enjoy the peace of the estate or be a classic tourist at the beach or along the Strada del Vino.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Breakfast at L’Andana is an experience that none can forget. The cast iron ovens in the kitchen turn out each morning freshly baked doughnuts, orange flower brioches, currant buns and cheese-cake. Other specialities includes slices of Tuscan cinta ham, tasty mozzarella cheeses and vegetables in season. Home-made yogurt, jam and marmalade are a must, as are fresh eggs prepared in a variety of different ways. Just choose your favourite and the chef will cook the dish in front of you so that you can enjoy it in all its energy-giving splendour.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? L’Andana has two restaurants on site. La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini The principles of La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini’s cuisine are authenticity, simplicity and seasonality. The menu is leaded by Tuscan traditions and products according, mostly, the typical recipes used by local families. In the heart of the Maremma countryside, you will find the genuineness of local products, with a rigorous respect for Tuscan cuisine and the culinary philosophy “Contemporary Classic” by chef Enrico Bartolini, together with the executive chef Marco Ortolani, according to which the values of the past and present merge together to create a brand new and original flavor. His Contemporary Classic cuisine is making a big impact in the food scene: innovative, balanced and inspiring. The values of the past and the contemporaneity of the present merge to give life to new original and balanced tastes. Strong taste impact and aesthetic perfection create a strong culinary experience light and that gratifies the palate and leaves the mind full of great gastronomical memories. Many ingredients have an extra-special added touch, aromatic herbs, vegetables, wine and olive oil are produced from the gardens and cellar of Tenuta La Badiola. La Villa La Villa serves delicious lunches and dinners, from a menu that varies with the season. The dishes are prepared by the same chefs as those at La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini. They all reflect genuine local traditions, where the delicate tastes of food from the sea flank stronger ones from the land: risotto with peas, streaky bacon and pecorino cheese is followed by anglerfish and courgette flower tortello, stewed octopus and Borlotti beans, and ossobuco with potatoes and celery. The desserts are shamelessly scrumptious and combine different consistencies and temperatures, such as melted chocolate and pistachio ice-cream or warm granny Smith’s apple and sorbet tart. In the area Terra di Nello 58043 Castiglione d. Pescaia (GR) Located in a beautiful garden of a typical Tuscan farmhouse, the restaurant proposes one of the best local meat. The creation of a bridge between traditional cuisine and a more modern and up-to-date vision; local products are chosen with great care and transform them into dishes that allow the guests to discover the potential of our territory. Closed on Tuesday Il Cantuccio Loc. Buriano (GR) - Located in the medieval village, after and extensive research done by books, ancient texts, stories and passion, they propose traditional dishes from Maremma, giving to the guests the pleasure to re discover the culinary emotions of the past. During summer, dinner is served outside. Closed on Monday Ristorante Oasi Pratoranieri 58022 Follonica -  Fresh Fish restaurant with innovative kitchen. Located on a lovely terrace overlooking the sea for a breathing view of the Gulf. Closed on Wednesday

Which are your most popular room types, and why? The 13 suites located in the Villa and the Fattoria are private residences, each with its own décor and distinctive atmosphere, designed to make your stay a unique experience. The tasteful furnishings are selected with great care so that everything fits in perfectly with the surroundings. Prestige Suites measure about 80m² in size and have a spacious living area with fine fabrics, comfy sofas and refined chaise-longues, plus a romantic stone fireplace. The spacious bedroom offers a unique vista of the romantic private chapel, the intense-green Mediterranean macchia, a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves and the bright blue Mediterranean sea. A true home from home, with the convenience of two bathrooms. Some of them are even equipped with their own whirlpool bath in refined mosaic, allowing guests to relax at leisure in the privacy of their own room.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? Children are of course welcomed and extra beds are possible in all the rooms except in Superior rooms. Some of our Deluxe rooms have a mezzanine floor, the ideal spot for a children's bedroom. The Kids’ Club is located at Casa Badiola, the little dependence at 50 meters from L’Andana. It is designed to enable children to move around and enjoy themselves in complete safety under the watchful eye of an adult. Inside it is brightly decorated and features games, non-slip carpets, cushions, tables and chairs, all scaled down. Every single detail has been created with their enjoyment in mind. Their creativeness is also stimulated by various activities organised daily just for them, ranging from classic games in the open-air and pony rides to afternoons spent in the art workshop. The Kids’ Club garden has a children’s swimming pool, ping-pong, pinball game and much more besides. Our young guests can also experiment with planting flowers and vegetables in a kid-size garden.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? Surrounded by the lovely colours of unspoilt nature, L’Andana came about to meet the needs of the travellers of the soul, those who seek the opportunity to understand themselves and reveal their interior make-up, and the chance to discover and explore new places. It is intended for families, who need space and intimacy at the same time. For romantics, who will find rooms with mosaic baths and intimate corners in the gardens, as far as the private chapel. For nature-lovers, who wish to immerse themselves in a landscape where Mother Nature still reigns supreme. For golf enthusiasts, who can make use of the green “in the back garden”.

The tiny, terracotta chapel, its pan-tiled roof topped with a bell tower, is one good reason for getting married here. Another is the classic Tuscan landscape of this 500-hectare estate deep within the Maremma National Park.

Attentive, willing and well-informed, though sometimes a bit over-formal.
