Hotel review

One breakfast of build-your-own pan con tomate, followed by a swim in the infinity pool gazing across the whole of Barcelona, and you'll start wondering why you don't always make life decisions this good.

Perched high on Tibidabo, this is an unapologetically indulgent, special occasion booking. The infinity pool is the obvious showstopper, but the stainless-steel indoor/outdoor pool, artwork-filled hallways, expansive gym and excellent Valmont Spa add charm. 

Sea-view suites are jaw-dropping: soft creams, tactile natural materials and enormous windows designed to keep your eyes fixed on the glittering skyline. Some even come with private plunge pools, if floating above Barcelona wasn't decadent enough. A thunderstorm rolling across the city only heightened the atmosphere.

The complimentary shuttle into Passeig de Gràcia only runs a couple of times a day, so you'll need to plan if heading into the city for dinner, but the trade-off is blissful tranquillity.
