At 2222 m, this traditional, grand yet welcoming resort hotel, opened in 1884, stands “high above the worries of the world” at the second stop on the cog railway that winds up from Zermatt to Gornergrat at 3089 m. Accessible only by rail or by mountain path from the town far below, the hotel is reached on foot or by quaint tram through stone pines and stands on a sunny plateau, with breathtaking views of the Matterhorn, right by the ski slopes. A gracious, dignified and romantic refuge in summer or winter.
