With design nods to New York’s Flatiron building, its railway heritage and built by Ardmore (think, The Ned), this 18-storey, four-star hotel is now part of Hilton’s Curio Collection. Its creative boutique concept and competitive rates mean it’s fast-gaining popularity as a happening stay in E20.
The V&A East and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park are just a ten-minute walk away and it’s a super base if you’re seeing a concert at The O2. Stratford International is just across the road, where you can zip to and from St Pancras in a mere seven minutes.
There are 291 rooms and a lively vibe to the place. It’s all East London hipsters and industrial-luxe inside the lobby, with beautiful parquet wooden flooring and pops of rich textiles and vivid colour in the furnishings. The front-of-house staff are amiable and helpful with transport recommendations.
Once in the rooms, the industrial colour palette continues with cobalt blue panelling, warm wooden floors and crisp whites. There were incredible floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the urban landscape – especially fascinating at night. Importantly, in our spacious Twin Deluxe Room, the beds were dressed in white cotton sheets and were extremely comfortable. I was surprised at the quality for the price point.
I loved the residential feel of the hotel and area, which is more communal and buzzy. Union Social, on the first floor, is the main dining room and serves the classics in a light-filled setting with an attached outdoor terrace. The chicken Caesar salad was delicious with a glass of Chablis; there were also pizzas and bistro-style dishes. Breakfast is served in the same space, and though the kitchen staff were hectic, I was impressed with the spread and hot order options – my omelette was just right.

"Hilton’s shiny new addition to the capital (part of the hip, young Curio Collection brand) joins the party of glittering skyscrapers in Stratford, East London. It will likely become a social hub for this ever-growing neighbourhood, with an all-day restaurant and soon-to-open rooftop bar."
