The Newman feels like one of the most interesting hotel openings London has seen in quite some time and The Times names it ‘hotel of the year 2026’. Three years in the making it’s obvious that the management team and designers behind it genuinely understand Fitzrovia and the sort of traveller they want to attract. It avoids the polished anonymity that so many five star luxury hotels fall into and instead feels very much connected to its neighbourhood.

Art Deco influences run subtly throughout the hotel from the lacquered staircase to the lighting and materials. Bedrooms and suites are beautifully comfortable with excellent beds with natural mattresses, generous tiled and marble bathrooms and thoughtful details such as sleep products and masks in the mini bar.

Downstairs, Gambit Bar is somewhere locals as well as hotel guests hang out and there’s a great alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktail list. Beneath the hotel, there’s a floor dedicated completely to wellness including a gym equipped with Technogym, Himalayan salt wall, hydrotherapy pool, experience showers and four treatment rooms with extra wide heated beds. The restaurant Angelica Brasserie is on the ground floor where breakfast through to late dinner is served, seven days a week. The menu leans towards modern British and European with a Scandinavian current running through it.
