Hotel Review

A real addition to Lisbon’s hotel scene, Spanish group H10 Hotels launched their The One brand in 2019 in the heart of Lisbon. The original 16th century palace, right in the centre of the capital, has been carefully restored, preserving the original marble floors, stone staircase and the ornate painted and gilded ceilings, which come with intricate stucco work. The Chilean designer Jamie Beriestain has skilfully inserted 21st century needs into the ancient walls resulting in a luxurious property with a real sense of history. At the centre of the hotel is a large, inner courtyard where breakfast (so good, it is worthy of a visit just to try that) is served in summer, overlooked by the 18 metre swimming pool inset high above it with views of Lisbon’s red roofs.

The main restaurant (which has to win the prize for the loveliest ceilings in Lisbon), serves elegant Iberian and Mediterranean fare – think braised scallops with crispy Serrano ham – but light dishes and tapas are also available in the wine bar and the cocktail lounge.

The spa has a 24 hour gym, plunge pool with jets and treatment rooms for their Natura Bissé product line, which are also the amenities in the rose-pink marble bathrooms. The décor in the rooms and suites is similar throughout; pale wood, bold, blue and white ceramic plates on the wall and inviting beds clad in Egyptian cotton sheets. Most rooms have view onto the private gardens. All rooms, bar two suites, are shower only.
