“In the heart of trendy Clerkenwell, this ultra-stylish hotel appeals to wannabe hipsters looking for a design-conscious cocoon in the heart of London's coolest quarter.”

Hotel review

Fabric's basslines, Smithfield's dawn meat trade, The Eagle's perfect pints - if 59-room hotel Marrables (formerly The Zetter) has been the heart of Clerkenwell since 2004, the creative energy of its bistros, bars and local makers pumps through its veins.

Smaller rooms serve as clean, comfy crash pads; flashes of neon pink and orange and vibrant prints keep the darkest ones from feeling drab. There are desks for workcations, and Hypnos beds for indulgent afternoon naps. Rooftop rooms are the best (spacious terraces, jazzy tech, personal sound systems, piles of books, city views), and the Deluxe is the crown jewel, full of thoughtful touches like umbrellas and a hot water bottle for chilly nights. Order a croque madame and a crisp glass of wine from French bistro Gazette downstairs, and summer evenings write themselves: sink into your outdoor tub with spoiling Verden products, evening sun heating the taps to perfection. Pro tip: throw on a robe, lest you give nearby office workers an unexpectedly happy Friday.

Whichever room you pick, do skip across the courtyard to ever-quirky sister hotel The Zetter Clerkenwell - cocktails are infused with everything from bee pollen to raspberry vinegar, and a brilliantly whimsical menu of bar snacks and tipples is stacks above average.
