Walker Hotel Tribeca has a very different feel to its Greenwich Village sister property. Younger, livelier and altogether moodier, it works well for a younger crowd who plan to spend most of their time out in the city before returning for late cocktails downstairs.
The location is excellent for exploring downtown Manhattan. Soho, Chinatown and the Financial District are all within easy reach. The idea here is to walk all day, stop for coffee somewhere downtown, return to the hotel to change and then head back out again.
Inside, polished concrete, dark tones and low lighting create a more contemporary atmosphere. Rooms and bathrooms are undeniably small, even by New York standards, though the design makes good use of the space and rooms on the higher floors come with impressive skyline views. The lobby bar gives the hotel much of its energy in the evenings and there is a sociable, young and trendy feel throughout.
This is a great choice if location and atmosphere matter more to you than sprawling suites which are hard to find and come at a price.
