About Assagao

Once a sleepy village in North Goa, Assagao has been transformed into one of the region’s trendiest destinations. Known for its fabulous foodie scene and its top-notch boutiques, the village now attracts a hip, creative crowd — and boasts the hotels to match. Charming and intimate, many of the best places to stay in Assagao are housed in elegant restored mansions, perfect for a trip to remember.

Amble or cycle along the village’s tree-lined lanes, spotting colourful heritage residences reflecting Goa’s iconic Indo-Portuguese style. Guided tours offer a fascinating insight into the area’s architecture and culture, and it’s worth keeping an eye out for regular exhibitions and events. Pop into artisanal boutiques selling clothing and homewares, or sip craft cocktails at the likes of Gunpowder and signature beers paired with sensational Japanese fare at the Assagao branch of Mumbai favourite Izumi.

Rise early for yoga classes at the village’s appealing studios, or head further afield for hikes and spring water dips in the lush Assagao Valley. Tours of nearby spice plantations are brilliant, as are long lunches at farm-to-table eateries. Keen shoppers will adore the weekly markets of Anjuna and Vagator, whilst the golden sands of the coast are within easy reach for sunbathing, surfing and refreshing swims.
