Imagine you have the good fortune of staying at a friend’s house on the Italian Riviera: at Capitolo Riviera, you are living that dream. Opened in 2024, the luxury five-star boutique has relatively flown under the radar but in some way, this adds to the allure. Located in Nervi, a small residential sea-side town on the Ligurian coast, Capitolo Riviera feels more like a private residence rather than a hotel. 37-rooms and suites are contemporary in design and all the well-appointed rooms come with ample space, fresh light streaming in from large floor to ceiling windows with many of them opening out to a large outdoor balcony overlooking the private garden.

Located on a large former-residential property, the boutique hotel has many pockets where tranquility can be found. Indoor public spaces are decorated with a selection of art curated by a local gallery, Satura and there is also a wellness sanctuary for adults which includes a sauna, steamroom, 24-hour fitness centre and a connecting outdoor pool to flex your muscles. There is only one restaurant but it’s a good one. Botanico Restaurant is led by chef Giovanni Astolfoni who works to the seasons and here you find the best of the region – fresh herbs and vegetables from the mountains and locally sourced seafood from the sea. Liquido Bar, is the perfect place for a night-cap with expertly made cocktails shaken and stirred to perfection.

Michelle's Hot Tip: The hotel is a short 2-minute walk to the coast and train station which takes you to either the city of Genoa or Portofino and surrounding seaside Ligurian towns.
