Hotel Review

If you are a dreamer this is the place to stay. Grab a refreshing beer or a cold glass of wine and settle down in the bar, in your room (sea view required), or at the infinity pool and look west - next stop USA. There’s nothing between here and there except the sea and sky. Do this at around 6.30pm and you’ll also see the sun drop below the horizon. Spectacular - and in a way the Ponta do Sol is too: built on the rocky cliff on four levels above the pretty unspoilt village of the same name. The hotel is design led, white with pops of colour, straight lines and sharp angles. It doesn’t always work but it’s always interesting. Rooms are a good size, white, functional with all glass window/door to the balcony and view. The restaurant is very popular serving regional and international food and is good value. If you are staying for a few days or more, the village offers plenty of restaurant choices right on the beach or in the atmospheric centre. After the view, the star of the show must be the infinity pool on top of the cliff. You need to arrive early to claim the top spots but really they are all good and you can always drop down to another terrace for peace and seclusion. Ponta da Sol offers amazing value for money in the sunniest part of Madeira with easy access to the beach and the stunning Levada walks.
