Baron Adrien de Turckheim (designer for Dietrich Bollée cars with his partners Mathis and Bugatti) visited Verbier in1903 on a car rally. His grand-daughter fulfilled his dream of building a chalet in the meadows. The chalet opened in 2001, the only 5 star hotel in the resort, built above the village with stupendous views of the Grand Massif. The 29 bedrooms each named after an alpine flower, are charmingly decorated, and include attic rooms under the eves as well as family suites with log fires. Teddy bears are much loved here, dotted all over the hotel. Breakfast in the sunny dining room with red checked table clothes, milk churns and cowbells is deliciously Swiss. Private shuttle bus.
