“A chic brasserie and hotel in the heart of the market town of Romsey. Individually styled rooms feature sink-into beds, bold wall paper and parquet flooring. The Brasserie, undeniably the star of the show, offers up contemporary British fare. A charming spot for a weekend break.”

Hotel review

Set in a small town with its magnificent Norman Abbey, King John’s hunting lodge and Broadlands Estate where Queen Elizabeth spent part of her honeymoon, the White Horse is one of Britain’s oldest hotels and is part of The Coaching Inn Group. Past its charming black and white Georgian façade opposite the main marketplace and down a well-lit alleyway is the reception in the historic half of the hotel. Typically ‘British Countryside’ and wonderfully old with authentic Tudor nooks and crannies with their low, dark, solid, oak beams.

All of the rooms are unique in shape, size and decoration. Some have original period features. Decor includes wallpaper depicting historic scenes of romance, matching curtains and some with balconies with shutters. Treats include a Roberts radio, plump pillows, soft linen, a fluffy bathrobe and Harrogate bathroom products. There are several places to eat including an alfresco patio and food is served all day. Within is The Restaurant in which the food is excellent, fairly-priced and served in generous helpings. Local attractions include the New Forest, trout fishing on the River Test. Beaulieu’s National Motor Museum and the cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury. A perfect staging post of a coaching inn.
