York racecourse is one of the UK’s top flat-racing venues, and is the third largest in the country in terms of prize money. If you’re coming to a race meeting, then you’ll naturally want a hotel near York racecourse to make the most of your time. The racecourse is on the south side of the city, on what is called the Knavesmire. But, as it’s only 10 minutes from the city centre, choosing a hotel near the racecourse means you will also have easy access to the city’s other attractions.

Luxury hotels beside the racecourse

You can cross the road to York racecourse from Middlethorpe Hall, so it’s hard to find a hotel any closer. This classic country-house hotel, in a beautiful William and Mary building, is surrounded by gardens and parkland. Rooms are luxuriously comfortable with a scattering of antiques and there are large sitting rooms for relaxing over coffee and the papers. There’s an excellent restaurant, too, plus a spa offering a wide range of treatments plus pool, sauna and steam room..

Mid-range hotels near the racecourse

It’s not much further – around a 15-minute walk – from the Hotel du Vin to the racecourse. This smartly contemporary hotel, in a former Victorian orphanage, makes a good choice if you also want to do York’s historic sights. Choose a bedroom in the main building, rather than the modern extension, for more space. To celebrate, or commiserate, your day at the races, enjoy the French bistro food in the restaurant.
