• Want to fly to Aosta?

• There are lots of ways into the Aosta Valley, depending on where you’re starting out from, but the closest airports to Aosta are: Turin Airport, which is just over an hour away by road, or about three hours by public transport; Milan Malpensa, which is about two hours away by car or bus; and Geneva Airport, which is about a two and a half hour drive, or four hours by public transport. The Aosta Valley is very easy to get to by train, via Paris, Lyon, Geneva, Turin or Basel etc., and there are plenty of options overland, and Aosta itself is just by the Italian entrance to the Mont Blanc tunnel.

• If you’re coming to ski, the Aosta Valley ski season runs between about mid-December until about mid-April. The rule usually holds that the higher up resorts are the most snow sure, and the city of Aosta is comparatively low, so this isn’t the right choice if you want to be right by the slopes. The winters here are cold, though, so you should be prepared for snow. Aosta can be very hot in summer, with average temperatures in the middle of summer edging towards 30°C, so if you’re here to hike, or mountain bike, most people plan for the late spring and early summer, when there’s a charming dust of snow on the peaks, but temperate, sunny conditions below.
