The Sari Konak (which means ‘yellow mansion’) is a great-value find in old Sultanahmet, handy for all the iconic sights of the historic centre. Outside, it’s an old Ottoman townhouse, albeit sensitively brought up to date. Inside, it offers simply decorated rooms with traditional wood floors. There’s a charming little courtyard where a tasty Turkish-style buffet breakfast is served. Best of all, on a summer evening, is the rooftop café-terrace with its breathtaking views of the Blue Mosque and the sea.
