Hotel Review

L’AND Vineyards sits on the edge of a small lake, beyond which lies a hill, dominated by the white-washed, medieval town of Montemor-o-Novo. With interiors by Marcio Kogan, the main building houses a lobby dominated by wood and slate with bespoke pieces such as a distinctive bench by George Nakashima and locally woven rugs. Beyond that is the restaurant, holder of one Michelin star, which delivers culinary highlights from the region such as black pork with acorns, pistachio and Varanegra smoked ham under gleaming brass Tom Dixon lamps. Wine pairing from the local area and the hotel’s own vineyard is not to be missed. Beneath the restaurant is the small spa and large, heated, swimming pool. Twenty-two suites curve through the vineyards. Ten of them are sky suites, with retractable roofs allowing you to enjoy the clear skies in this region of Portugal and small private patios with a plunge pool inset. Twelve others are land suites with large terraces and a fireplace. All are spacious with equally large bathrooms, tubs made from raw slate and vast rain showers. Underground heating runs throughout. Bedrooms are clad in wooden slatted walls and raw textiles. A large outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by sun beds, runs down to the lake, around which you can ride on one of the hotel’s bikes.

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel?Because it is a unique experience sleeping under the starry sky of Alentejo along the vineyards.

What is there to do in the area? At L´AND it is possible to relax in the vinotherapie SPA, enjoy a wine tasting, stargaze or see the amazing view from above in an air balloon. You can also do guided visits to the old city Montemor-o-Novo, or for the more adventurous enjoy a glider flight or do a parachute jump. Only 20 minutes away is Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?Regional bread, creamy butter, selection of L’AND jams and fresh orange juice, local cheeses and sausages, pastries, homemade orange cake, L’AND Granola, L’AND Honeycomb, fruitand organic eggs any which way

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?L´AND restaurant is open daily for dinner and for lunch from Friday to Sunday. Besides the restaurant the wine bar is working daily from 12pm to 10pm for light meals.

In Montemor-o-Novo we recommend “Pátio dos Petiscos”, “Raiz e Tradição” and “Arado”. Near Montemor, in Lavre, we recommend “Maçâ” and in Évora “Pipa Rosa” and “Café Alentejo”.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? The most popular room types are the Sky View Suites for … Almost everything! The romantic atmosphere created by Márcio Kogan interior design and Michael Bernstein painting, the outside fireplace, the plunge pool, the window in the top of the bed to see the starry sky of Alentejo… Makes the Sky View Suite unique.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ?We can provide baby sitting, there is a small playground and the outdoor swimming pool can be enjoyed by children accompanied by the parents. Some rooms can take an extra bed.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? You are welcome at the wild side of Alentejo with a unique light and we promise you, more than a stay, an amazing experience.
