“Sala Lodges stands out with its refined approach to Cambodia’s architectural heritage. The saltwater pool, excellent on-site restaurant and lovingly restored traditional Khmer homes are compelling reasons to linger – even with the world-renowned temples of Angkor just a short drive away.”

Hotel review

For travellers seeking an authentic taste of Cambodia, Sala Lodges offers a glimpse into rural life paired with the comfort of a luxury boutique hotel. Eleven traditional Khmer wooden houses, dating from 1956 to 1985, are raised on stilts amid lush tropical foliage. Each was carefully sourced by the hotel’s Swiss owners, relocated from rural villages, and meticulously reassembled to form a charming village-style compound.

Expect a sense of stylish simplicity, with local furnishings, stripped wood, generous bathrooms, and wraparound terraces. In contrast, the open-air Ma Om Restaurant blends contemporary design with natural materials, serving refined Cambodian cuisine inspired by local flavours and seasonal produce.

Guests may also enjoy light meals, snacks, and drinks at the lounge near the pool or through room service. At the far end of the property, a saltwater swimming pool offers a welcome retreat from the heat. Early-morning temple visitors can request a takeaway breakfast, thoughtfully prepared and packed in a traditional wicker picnic basket.

Map & Location

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? We offer an authentic Cambodian experience through genuine Khmer wooden houses, carefully preserved and dating from 1956 to 1985. Our lush tropical gardens, where fruits, vegetables, and herbs grow naturally, are also frequently mentioned. Most of all, our caring, professional, and attentive team is often praised for making each stay truly memorable.

What is there to do in the area? Angkor Wat and its archaeological complex are, of course, the main attraction. Guests also enjoy exploring Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, the surrounding countryside, and Mount Kulen, with its temples, waterfalls, and sacred sites.

What kind of breakfast do your offer? Breakfast is served à la carte, allowing guests to choose freely according to their appetite. Options include artisanal bread and croissants, homemade jams, homemade yogurt with local honey, cereals, a Cambodian breakfast special of the day, eggs with bacon or ham, fresh seasonal fruit juices, and freshly ground coffee.

Do you offer other meals? Can you recommend places to eat locally?

Ma Om Restaurant is open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a focus on Cambodian cuisine.

For dining in town, our favourite restaurants include Cuisine Wat Damnak and Sugar Palm.

Which are your most popular room types and why? All of our houses are equally popular. Couples often choose our One-Bedroom Suite Lodges, while families prefer the Two-Bedroom Suite Lodge. Each house is unique, with its own history, architecture, and character, so preferences vary depending on individual taste.

What facilities do you have for children? Extra beds can be arranged in all houses (supplement applies), and baby cots are provided complimentary. High chairs and games are available, and babysitting services can be arranged with 24 hours’ notice.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?

Siem Reap is an extraordinary destination. If time allows, we recommend staying four to five days to fully enjoy the temples, Tonlé Sap Lake, countryside, and the city — while still having time to relax by the pool or enjoy a spa treatment.

Each evening, we host Happy Hour from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at our lounge — a lovely moment to unwind and watch the sunset.
