Hotel Review

Villa Campestri is in a beautiful position overlooking the Mugello valley in the Chianti Rufina region. An avenue of cypress and pine trees beset with violet blue irises lead up to reception where the staff are ready to give a warm and friendly welcome. The Villa dates back to the 13th century and is full of Tuscan charm echoing the renaissance period with wood panels and traditional furnishings. Rooms are large and spacious and in high summer, it is wise to keep the shutters closed during the day. Families would do well to book a cool ground floor room in the villa itself. Tastefully renovated outbuildings with two bedrooms and a bathroom sit a few steps away from the villa and pool, which offer a little more privacy with loggias to sit out, sip an aperitif and relax. This is a working olive farm surrounded by olive groves, where olive oil tastings are offered with great pride. The chef is keen on foraging for fresh produce, all evident in the enticing menu and chickens provide fresh eggs for the kitchen. You have the choice of eating inside or al fresco overlooking the sloping gardens and valley beyond. The service is helpful although the busy weekends can prove to be a little relaxed. The pool is set amongst weeping willows below the villa, well placed for a little privacy and again stunning views. If you want to explore the local countryside try the local trattorias for lunch, the staff are happy to recommend a few - a chance to practice your Italian...
